The Solar Power Plant and Atal Tinkering Lab(ATL) were inaugurated at Sankalp Senior Secondary School, Berhampur today by BeMC commissioner, Dr Siddeshwar Baliram Bondar, I.A.S and sub-Collector of Berhampur, Shri Keerthi Vasan, I.A.S. A host of dignitaries, School management committee members, members of print and electronic media attended the programme.
On this occasion the honourable chief guest advised the students to follow a 3 point -formula i.e. fostering reading habit, keeping interest in general knowledge and current affairs and play sports and games. He said that the students are lucky enough to be part of the prestigious institute Sankalp which is the best school that he has visited in south Odisha.
The guest of honour appreciated the school management and team for providing such a congenial study environment to the students. He iterated that the students studying in the school are fortunate enough to have such infrastructure for their holistic development.
Chairman Sri E T Rao mentioned that the school has a plan to train as many as students possible from the neighbouring schools in its Atal Tinkering Lab. He said Sankalp has always been one step ahead to contribute to the environment and marching towards being a Green School. He also said the school is doing organic farming, producing vermicompost and stopped using single used plastic, polythene in the campus. Apart from these all the school provides free education to about 30 students belonging to the economically weaker section.
As said by the school principal Sri Ptradipta Kishore Panigrahy, Sankalp is the first school in South Odisha to run completely with renewable energy. The rooftop solar power generation plant installed in the school produces about 300 units of electricity per day. In last two months the plant has generated 25330 KWH units of electricity, which saved 112450 Kgs of coal, fixed 25000 kgs of CO2 and this is equivalent to planting 137 matured teak trees.
The Atal Tinkering Lab(ATL), an initiative of Atal Innovation Mission(AIM) ,under the NITI Aayog, Govt of India, provides many learning opportunities for students free of cost. Robotics, Drone Technology, Artificial Intelligence, IOT and 3D printing are some of the major activities carried out in the lab to foster innovation among the students of classes VI to XII.
